The CVC Focus

In Their Own Words

I really liked learning about leadership and how to apply it to my life. A leader doesn’t need to stand right in the front and be the boss, they help serve others. Also, the outdoor activities like kayaking, hiking and climbing were really fun.

The CVC has been a masterful guide and partner in creating a dynamic opportunity at our school. Doors have been opened to conversation, networking, and growth opportunities to the students of Schiffer and adult mentors who might not have had that chance anywhere else to engage in such a dialogue.

CiViC Leadership Project organically creates links among community members who would rarely meet otherwise, building a strong network of people committed to the same goal, with the same language, giving us the ability to make things happen in this town.  I would never have created this social network of movers and shakers in Sheridan if it weren’t for CiViC.  CiViC is, in part, what makes this town a place I never want to leave.

The CVC has been a lifesaver for our organization more than once. Funding, mentoring, board training, guidance and so many more services like these are critical to our agency and the CVC always delivers! We look at the CVC as a lifeline – a service so much like a chamber of commerce for nonprofits – they truly do it all. I can’t imagine not having them in Sheridan County; what they bring to the table is invaluable!

What do we do?

Thanks to the vision and an initial investment of the Homer and Mildred Scott Foundation, the Center for a Vital Community began in 2001. The foundation’s trustees found a home for the CVC at Sheridan College, where the trustees envisioned the Center offering information collection, leadership development, and facilitation.

The CVC remains a neutral convener for community issues and critical initiatives forward.

Sheridan’ CiViC Leadership Project, the CVC’s flagship program, has graduated nearly 125 Sheridan County residents who have shared language and experiences. These translate into shared values and visions for our area.

The health and success of our local non-profits continue to be a focus of the CVC’s work as well as youth leadership and ongoing partnerships with other community entities.

Who are we?

We’re the shizzle!
